Anger in any form, whether moderate irritation or your hair-on-fire rage, consistently indicates that you feel threatened. It's nearly impossible to stop yourself once the title wave of anger washes over you. You can only prepare and practice your responses before being seized by an uncontrollable surge of anger. Anger is a primal human emotion; its job is to protect you from impending danger. Generally, we are not threatened with a life-ending circumstance requiring aggressive anger responses. However, we typically respond with angry reactions because our sense of self-worth is threatened.
Anger is very destructive to your emotional and physical health. Once you realize the toll, your anger is causing you. Then you can reflect on why you are triggered to respond with anger. Take the time to ponder what you are protecting; this reflection will give you time to pause before reacting angrily. Are there other emotional reactions available to you? Possibly compassion, consideration, or concern might be more suitable reactions,
